I have passion to develop people’s understanding of Scriptures. The Bible is the written record of God’s way with His people and His Word to His people over the ages and as such we read it to hear from God. In the Old Testament this word came in various forms. People literally experienced it and wrote of what they experienced. Often it records God’s way of leading, empowering and liberating His people, as we find in the historical books of the Old Testament and the Acts of the Apostles. Other times we read of how God spoke directly to His people, as in the record of the Prophets and the Gospels. There are times when it is puts together the prayers of the people like in the Psalms and it records their cries out of a place struggle, as in Lamentations and Job.
The Word Of God, however, came to people within a certain context, and it is the understanding of this context that often gives to us a deeper understanding of the reasons behind God’s talk to His people. This understanding helps us interpret God’s Word to us in our context. But also helps us understand God and His ways with us a little better.
I have designed this series of Bible Studies to enable us understand more of the context within which God revealed Himself to His people. Context therefore plays a major role in the study. I make use of the findings of archaeology in the lands of Bible, not as proof of the veracity of the Bible, but to give us greater understanding of the text and its times, but also to stir our understandings and imaginations and passion for the stories and places of the Bible.
I deliberately do not prescribe on how to interpret the text, and leave to our own thinking and imagination the application of God’s Word and ways into our lives.
